The Exeter & District Branch is a small group of volunteers, whose aims are to raise funds for the British Heart Foundation’s work and to create awareness locally of the Foundation and what it does.

The BHF is the main source of funds for heart research in the UK. Research has been vital in discovering the causes of Heart Disease, developing modern drugs and improving major surgery techniques.

The BHF also contributes to the purchase of life-saving equipment for local hospitals, surgeries and ambulance services. It funds BHF Heart Nurses around the country, and provides educational materials for the public and for health professionals.

Aims of the British Heart Foundation

OUR MISSION

The mission of the BHF is to play a leading role in the fight against disease of the heart and circulation, so that it is no longer a major cause of disability and premature death.

Our vision is of a world in which people do not die prematurely of heart disease.

We'll achieve this through pioneering research, vital prevention activity and ensuring quality care and support for everyone living with heart disease.

Where the money goes

In 2009/10 the British Heart Foundation's expenditure on its charitable aims was £85.6 million.

Of this, £48.4 million (57%) was spent on Research, and £37.1 million (43%) on Prevention and Care (Education, Heart Nurses, Rehabilitation and Equipment).

Fundraising and publicity costs were £21.9 million.

The regular annual increase in BHF's income is only possible because of the continuing generosity of our donors and the dedicated efforts of our volunteers both in branches and shops, together with those of the paid staff.
