News from Exeter BHF
  • Sainsburys Alphington collection raises £394

Branch members collected outside Sainsburys at Alphington Road on Sunday 4th October, and we are grateful to all who helped fill our buckets to the tune of £394.40.  Those who have kindly supported us in this way can be assured that the money will be put to good use in furthering the Foundation's work.

As well as financing research into the causes and treatment of heart disease the Foundation helps with the provision of vital equipment to local surgeries and hospitals, and in locating portable defibrillators in the community.

Thanks are also due to the management and staff of the store for giving us the opportunity to collect, and for making us welcome on the day.

  • Community defibrillator for Newton St Cyres

The branch was pleased to be associated with the Newton St Cyres Community Support Group in their fundraising efforts to provide a defibrillator for the village.  Funds raised by our stall at the annual Heavitree Fun Day and other donations were earmarked towards the purchase of the equipment.  The defibrillator is located at the Crown & Sceptre pub in the middle of the village and local people have been trained in its use.

  • Mending Broken Hearts

At the moment, there's no cure for a broken heart. Once your heart muscle is damaged by a heart attack, it can never fully recover.  But there is hope.  The BHF has launched an appeal to raise £50 million to fund research into cardiovascular regenerative medicine.  This aims at finding a way to teach the heart to heal itself.

That’s how often someone in the UK has a heart attack. Half of these heart attacks will be fatal. Heart and circulatory disease is still the UK`s biggest killer.
